Red Spice Road

Red Spice Road

Recently some of our We Know Melbourne team got to visit well known South East Asian restaurant Red Spice Road in McKillop Street. The first thing that strikes you about this place is that it is a large venue but cleverly divided into separate zones each with it’s own feel and style. The obvious starting point ti at the McKillop street bar where we enjoyed a nice glass of wine and probably the standout dish of the night being an amazing appetizer of spiced duck ball on a wafer of fresh, chilled watermelon. The duck was quite spicy but combined with the watermelon it was just right! We toured the other sections of the restaurant which included the appropriately named Long Room which is home to a couple of very long communal tables which are a signature feature of Red Spice Road to encourage the feeling of shared eating that the owners feel is central to the Asian dining experience. There’s also a courtyard, function rooms and the very stylish Lantern Room which featured some …

“You would think that a rock star being married to a super-model would be one of the greatest things in the world. It is.”—David Bowie They say that when David Bowie first saw his supermodel wife, Iman Khan it was love at first sight. 23 years later and the couple seem to be going as strong as ever. But before Iman, David Bowie was as prolific in love as he was at amassing one of the world’s most epic catalogues of art. Check out the ‘knew that’s’ and ‘no-ways?’ of his love life: Angela Bowie: Before Iman, there was Angela Bowie, David Bowie’s first wife who he met when they were dating the same man. They divorced 10 years later. Susan Sarandon: Susan spilled the beans and that during the 80’s she had a “wild love affair” with David Bowie after co-starring with him in the 1983 Vampire Flick – The Hunger. Susan, we never knew! Mick Jagger: Acccording to Mick’s 2012 books, “Mick the wild life and mad genius of Mick Jagger, “ Mick and David had an ongoing …

Parlour Tea Room

I’ll take my tea with cheese please!

We’ve got to admit that when we think of cheese the first thing that we think of pairing it with is certainly not tea. However, as you know the We Know Melbourne team can’t stay away from cheese, it’s our Kryptonite and so one rainy Sunday afternoon we decided to try out the Porcelain Tea Parlour. The Porcelain Tea Parlour is located on Johnston St, Carlton, just a couple minutes walk from the Lygon main strip. It’s easy to miss if you’re not looking out for it, but we can smell a good cheese a mile away. Open till late every night, it’s the perfect spot for a night out (if you don’t want a boozy night). The interiors feel like you’ve entered someone’s cosy lounge room with a big chesterfield couch in the middle and a couple of tables filling the rest of the floor. Make sure to check out all the ceramic tea pots lined up on the wall, the variety is outstanding! The area doesn’t fit too many people in, which we …

David Bowie is coming to Melbourne. Well, not quite, but the Winter Master Pieces: David Bowie is is. Presented by ACMI, this major exhibition will  feature more than 300 items from Bowie’s personal archives. Seen by over 1 million people worldwide at sell-out shows in London, Chicago, Sao Paolo, Paris, and Berlin, this fantastic exhibition direct from the Victoria & Albert is one not to be missed. To celebrate the  launch of David Bowie Is, we’ve found 9 fun facts you probably never knew about Bowie: 1)David Bowie claims he had a ‘horrible’ incident with a cup of tea when he was 5 and refuses to drink it to this day. 2) David Bowie’s right pupil is permanently dilated – a result of his friend George Underwood punching him in the eye while the pair were still at school, in a fight over a girl 3) In 2004, Bowie was struck in the eye by a lollipop hurled from the crowd. It became lodged there, before being removed by a member of his road crew 4) Bowie lived at …
