You can be mine.’ Quite possibly the second best quote from one of the greatest Tom Cruise movies of all time, and line I desperately wanted to drop after seeing this supremely talented trio hit the stage. I want to borrow them next time I’m out on the town… in fact the entire audience did. As a moderately recently single lass (but not quite at desperate status), I was more than intrigued by the name of this all-girl group, the fabulous show name, and seeing their hot pink beehives in real life. So armed with one of my best actual-girl-wingmen, off we trot, wine in hand to get some tips from these sharply dressed women of the shocking pink hair. We weren’t disappointed. Community Dining at Tamil Feasts

The We Know Melbourne team are always looking for new and exciting places to eat, places to try that are bit different, but still delicious and provide a true gastronomic experience. Last night we discovered just that! Heading out to Ceres in Brunswick we joined a community of diners who had to come to try Tamil Feasts. Tamil Feasts is a social enterprise supporting recently settled asylum seekers through the celebration of food and culture. Initially starting just over a year ago, the feasts were initially only supposed to be a one-off event, but they were so popular they had to hold more. They now serve twice-weekly feasts (vegetarian/vegan on Tuesdays, meat/vegetarian on Mondays) , prepared by four Tamil men currently seeking asylum in Australia. Our feast last night was a 3 course vegetarian banquet which started off with bhajis, a small flat cake or ball of vegetables, fried in batter. Delicious and crispy, it was the perfect dish to whet our appetite! A Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood

The Langham and Wedgwood have collaborated to launch the bespoke version of the afternoon tradition – “The Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood,” and last week the We Know Melbourne team went along to try it out. Now if you’ve never been to an afternoon tea and are wondering what the fuss is all about, then we’d highly recommend you book yourself in for this afternoon tea at The Langham. Upon walking up the grand staircase of the hotel, we were instantly hit with the crisp, sweet ginger flower signature scent which set the scene of the decadent events to come. Sitting down to the tea in the Aria Bar and Lounge, we were immediately offered a glass of Perrier Jouet NV Champagne and given a menu with an extensive selection of teas to choose from. Dog Lovers Show – Review

Last weekend the We Know Melbourne team were invited along to the Dog Lovers Show at the Royal Exhibition Centre.  Bringing all dog lovers, dog owners and dogs great or small together, the show was like we had died and gone to doggie heaven. Set over three days. the program was filled with all sorts of shows such as the doggie talent show, doggie high jump and the celebrity vet stage – yes, Dr Chris Brown was in the house.   The show was split over two levels with the stalls downstairs filled with plenty of doggie products that owners could pick up. There were raw treats, collars, leashes, and a clear winner amongst many, the Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard chew toys – we couldn’t resist picking a couple up for our own little sausage dog. Upstairs, there were stalls filled with all different kind of dog breeds (and their owners) plus ones that we didn’t even know existed. Have you heard of an Italian Spinone before? Hot Tub Cinema Review

I love Bowie. I love cocktails. And who doesn’t love a hot tub. What an absolutely ripping combination, and I got to combine them all at Hot Tub Cinema – let’s dance! All terrible puns aside, we were invited along to experience the newly opened Hot Tub Cinema, located outside The Common Man in Southbank. Film for the evening… Labyrinth. Aim for the evening…. kick back in a hot tub, consume a few beverages and..’forget about the baby.’  … no? Upon entry, everyone is allocated a hot tub number, kitted out with a lit up water bottle (more about this later), and given instructions to set up your bar tab at the neighbouring bar, The Common Man. The whole experience is pretty slick, you can set up you bar tab, as well as pre-order cocktails and food to be delivered directly to your tub at a pre-arranged time. This means you’ll never need to leave the warm waters of the tub… well for food or drinks anyway (wink). Your water bottles are actually a clever multi-purpose …

Wine & Chocolate Festival – Review

Do you enjoy wine? Do you find chocolate irresistible? If you’re anything like us, they’re are your two favourite things in life, so on Saturday we went along to the Wine and Chocolate Festival eager to indulge.   Offered a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon, the festival was held at Seaworks, Williamstown; right beside the pier with an amazing view. The sunny weather topped off an amazing afternoon along with some jazz music and DJ Mimi. There were 13 stalls of wineries, 7 food trucks + 4 food vendors. The most fun and interesting part of the festival was of course the food pairing. Who would have known that Coedo Beniaka, a Japanese sweet potato crafted beer would go so well with chocolate? All the wine/beer pairing with chocolate were designed by a chocolate master chef from Belgium, Filip Tibos, and he truly knew what choccies went with what beverage. Les Mills Cycling Experience

Having done Cycling, RPM, Hi-Perf RPM, Spin, and other cycling varieties on offer by different clubs in the past, I was really keen to get into the saddle and give this latest creation by Les Mills a try, especially since I haven’t physically been on the stationary bike since December last year due to an injury. I arrived at the venue at Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday morning and it was buzzing with hundreds if not thousands of fit-looking crowds, as it also coincided with the Australian Health & Fitness Expo. I ran into some friends and instructors that I knew, and was overjoyed to tell them that I was about to take part of the Australia’s first immersive cycle experience.  Expectations were certainly high! Academy Kitchen & Bar

Walking into Academy Kitchen & Bar, we were warmly greeted by the friendly waitresses and informed that we would be seated at one of the best tables in the house. It was a cooler Thursday evening and we were there to try out the new Autumn menu.  We had a choice of either picking our own dishes or leaving it up to the masterful hands of head chef, Will Manning. We of course love surprises so went for the latter. The first dishes to come out were the pumpkin gnocchi with butternut pumpkin sauce, pickled shimeji and crispy onion rings, and the salmon terrine with dill creme fraiche, saffron aioli, caperberries and sorrel.  The pumpkin gnocchi was light and  flavoursome, and coupled with the creamy butternut sauce topped with the crunchy onion rings, it felt like the perfect winter indulgence dish. In tasting the salmon, it was the saffron aioli that stood out for us and had us wanting more. Both considerable sized dishes, we were surprised that these were just part of the ‘snacks …

Comedy Hypnosis! Entranced – MICF Review

Last week we went to see Isaac Lomman and his hypnosis show, as part of the Comedy Festival. Watching him tap into the minds of some volunteers making them do certain tricks had us entranced.  Isaac said we experience hypnosis every single day of our lives. Was this true? Is this real or fake? Were these volunteers put aside earlier in the show and given scripts? We asked ourselves these questions as we watched the beginning of the show unfold. Isaac was determined to prove that hypnosis is very possible. Guiding us through his process, he put his volunteers in a trance-like state, where they responded quickly to his commands in their own unique ways, each displaying a different way of doing the action. We watched people sleep, laugh uncontrollably, and respond to tasks that involved the audience. Overall the show was very entertaining and funny.  It was refreshing to see a comedy about people “sleeping” and doing things that we would never do ourselves unless under a magic spell. Incomplet – MICF Review

It’s not that often you go to a stand-up gig and the comedian has flown in as the only passenger on a private jet just to be with his audience. Michael Bowley’s Incomplet is an unashamedly, unfinished eclectic collection of thoughts and experiences of a comedian 12 years, 3 months and 13 days in the making. The show is super educational, particularly for the internationals in the room. Bowley explains the four different types of “mate”, which means I now have to go over the last eight months in my head to see if anyone has referred to me as “your mate”. There are also top tips about how to be socially responsible/morally reprehensible depending on whether or not you’re ok with using a credit card the late former tenant of your house has been approved for. Someone sat next to me described Bowley as “a real cutie”, and he definitely comes across as this nice guy. This makes his occasional moments of dark humour all the more funny. These little surprises create a great balance in the show. There are times where Bowley …
