Keep it local at Bowerbird Bar

Unlike the Tiki bars and vintage dives left right and centre, the seemingly innocuous Bowerbird Bar on Bridge Rd steps into the “themed” bar space of Melbourne with very low key aplomb. “Everything here is Victorian sourced”, manager Max Ware tells me after delivering our second round of cocktails “Not only are all our drink options Victorian made, but the tables, shelving, tableware and stools are from Victorian designers, or reclaimed from a local area” Even the rhombus trivet coaster beneath my frosted silver goblet are designed by Melbourne local Lauren Steller and made of recycled aeroplane tyres, a material that would once go directly to landfill. While I see the theme and appreciate the earth friendly nature of it, it’s not until my companion Mel (a wildlife officer, usually belly deep in a creek) points out to me the cleverness of the name – A Bowerbird goes and collects things it finds beautiful that are often throwaways from modern life, to bring back and decorate its nest with. Well played, Bowerbird bar. Second hand …

Where to relax in the Melbourne CBD

Melbourne is a fast paced metropolis with intrigue, action and something new on every corner. Local or visitor, this excitement can soon turn to exhaustion, especially if you’re in desperate need of TLC – Think overworking it, post Europe jetlag, or a good old fashioned hangover. We’ve got our top picks for kicking back in the heart of Melbourne. I don’t want to have to do anything at all – Onsen Ma Bring a little slice of Japanese tranquillity to your day with a trip to Onsen Ma, Melbourne’s favourite Japanese bathhouse. Surrounded by a traditional wooden interior, the pools are a warm soak in heaven. As they say on their website “Japanese bathing cleanses the body and serves to refresh and relax. It is also considered to calm the kokoro (person’s spirit or heart) and is good for both physical and psychological/spiritual well-being”. Make the most out of your trip with the inclusion of a japanese dry or oil massage and foot treatment to really punch stress in the throat. An important thing to …

We tried Floatation Therapy and here is why we recommend it

It is hard to get away from the noise in a busy, yet vibrant city like Melbourne. Luckily Melbourne never says no to new and cool innovations. Floatation therapy, the new remedy treatment in town, will remind you that you need to have some me-time in this eventful city. We got a chance to try out what floatation therapy is all about at Rest House Float Centre, located at Hampton East, and we absolutely enjoyed every second of it. Why Floatation Therapy? This relaxing activity will clearly help you reduce stress and anxiety. Not only that, it also can help improve blood circulation, digestion, skin health, accelerate muscle repair, improve sleep patterns, and much more. Our experience at Rest House Float Centre. For this special occasion, we have asked our graphic designer – Ting to attend this sensational experience. Rest House Float Centre mentioned to us that floatation therapy helps with creativity, to help those creatives out there to think outside of the box. Ting described her experience as phenomenal! As a graphic designer, she …

Get après-ski chic with Mont Plonk

On the 21st June, Mont Plonk had its exclusive opening party. Dressed in our most cosy winter jumpers we headed down to Melbourne Public Terrace to sample some delicious spiced mulled wine, snuggle into some Ugg Australia sheepskins rugs and get out our best pose for some snaps in the Mont Plonk chair lift. Despite being over 200km away from any hint of snow-kissed mountain caps, this well designed urban ski lodge creates the true look and feel of an après-ski bar. There isn’t any entry fee to access Mont Plonk, so come along with your friends and family and enjoy the après-ski experience. You will also have the opportunity to reserve tables by purchasing a “Group Ski pass”, which includes a reserved table, a cheese fondue to share, a bratwurst sausage each, a choice of hot toddy or boozy hot chocolate each and 2 shots from the shot-ski per person. On until the 16th July, Mont Plonk promises an authentic après-ski experience slap-bang in the middle of Melbourne. So for those who can’t make …
