‘THE ESTATE’ A NEW EXHIBITION BY PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTIST MARNIE HADDAD

Marnie Haddad unveils her new exhibition, ‘The Estate’ at Graham Geddes salon from 15 –22 March 2019.  Haddad’s new works draw inspiration from her love of classic film, depicted in her evocative and poetic portraits utilising shadow and subtle illumination. Haddad’s cinematic staging, rich painterly hues, technical precision and romantic undercurrents are beautifully articulated in this latest photographic essay. In this series, Haddad illustrates ‘a time that stands still’, she commented – “it’s neither comforting nor unsettling, but focuses on the kind of timeless travel that stops the clock and allows your imagination to transport you.” The fantasy that cinema brings has long ignited Haddad’s artistic sensibilities, she recalls being mesmerized by a flickering theatre scene where ordinary objects take on deeper meanings – the pink fluted glass, the arranged flowers, the street lights casting stripes through the venetian blinds, the curtains locked in folds, the heavy velvet that sits and fades with the migrating sun. Kidchella & Summer Nights

Dust off your fringed crops and denim cut offs! An internationally-inspired, Summer music and crafts festival is coming to Melbourne’s West and you don’t need to camp out for tickets or drive to the desert. Designed for both the young and young at heart, and for the first time ever, Highpoint Shopping Centre is hosting Kidchella from Monday 21 – Friday 25 January, followed by Summer Nights from Friday 1 – Sunday 3 February 2019. Highpoint’s youngest partygoers are invited to Kidchella, commencing on Monday 21 January. Melbourne, Australia: Melbourne Art Foundation unveiled details of the Melbourne Art Week 2018 program which cumulates in the return of Melbourne Art Fair, 2 – 5 August 2018 (Vernissage 1 August 2018) and the Visual Arts Awards on 4 August 2018. Over 50 Victorian cultural organisations, institutions, art spaces, satellite fairs and galleries will come together in the staging of Melbourne Art Week; a dynamic program of exhibitions, events, talks, performances and workshops that take place during the first week of August. MoMA at NGV

1 May 2018: In an international exclusive, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) presents a major exhibition of modern and contemporary masterworks from New York’s iconic Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in the world-premiere exhibition MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art, opening 9 June 2018 at NGV International in Melbourne. Co-organised by the NGV and MoMA, the exhibition features more than 200 works – many of which have never been seen in Australia – from a line-up of seminal nineteenth and twentieth-century artists, including Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dalí, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, Edward Hopper, Louise Bourgeois, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Diane Arbus, Agnes Martin and Andy Warhol. Bringing the exhibition up to the present are works by many significant twenty-first century artists including Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Olafur Eliasson, Andreas Gursky, El Anatsui, Rineke Dijkstra, Kara Walker, Mona Hatoum and Camille Henrot. Internationally renowned contemporary artist, Spencer Tunick, will headline Chapel Street’s PROVOCARÉ 2018 Festival of the Arts. Melbourne Museum’s commitment to presenting the best live performances continues with the next instalment of Nocturnal.  Don’t miss an evening of infectious house music on Friday 6 April, as Nocturnal joins Waving at Trains to present a triple-treat of Wax’o Paradiso, Harvey Sutherland (DJ set) and DJ JNETT.
