Moonlight Cinemas | 8 December – 2 April One of the original outdoor cinemas, the Moonlight Cinemas shows films under the stars on the lush lawns of the Royal Botanic Gardens. Don’t want to leave your dog home alone again?  This weekend Village Cinemas Australia and the RSPCA Victoria are partnering together at the Drive-in so you’ll never have to leave your best friend at home again! This weekend eekend, Coburg Cinemas are launching their Doggy Drive-In. Bring along your pooches and watch  an advance screening of Disney’s Zootopia! The Coburg Doggy Drive-In will give guests more than just a regular day with plenty of activities to keep every family member occupied. Already a favourite in London and New York, it’s finally Melbourne’s turn this April. Setting up at The Common Man, in South Wharf, Hot Tub Cinema will run for 6 weeks and will show all your old time cinema favourites (including Labyrinth, Ghostbusters, 21 Jump Street to name a few). There’ll be 10 portable inflatable spas to choose from and of course a waiter/waitress serving Mojitos and Martinis to you in your 40 degree hot tub! Australia’s favourite outdoor cinema, Moonlight Cinema have just released their tickets for the month of February and mong the line-up are three of this year’s standout biopics: Steve Jobs, Trumbo and Joy; as well as three advanced screenings of inspiring films based on real-life events: The Finest Hours, Concussion and The Lady In The Van. There’ll also be  advanced screenings of Hollywood’s biggest films Hail, Caesar! and Zoolander 2; alongside cult classics Clueless and The Rocky Horror Picture Show and all the latest blockbusters including  The Hateful Eight from Quentin Tarantino; Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence and The Revenant for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar contending performance. Vpremium is the latest cinema concept to launch in Australia and if you love going to the movies as much as we do, you’re in for a treat. The larger coupled, leather seats are the perfect size for a date night or an extra cosy mate night, and come complete with arm rest, drink holder and table – No more awkward knocking over of drinks onto your movie date! To top off your movie date order a hot meal to eat in the cinema while watching the latest release. With an extensive hot food menu to choose from including pizzas, burgers, nachos and desserts, plus an alcohol list we don’t know how we’re ever going to watch a movie in the regular cinemas again. And in case you’re wandering what the difference is between Gold Class and VPremium is, (we also had to ask), Gold Class Cinemas provide the extra perk of a personal waiter service. Having missed the opportunity to catch Dope at MIFF earlier this month, we have been eagerly awaiting it’s general release in Melbourne cinemas and on Thursday our wait was over. Lido were doing a special screening of it and we jumped to buy tickets.  You may have been to Lido cinemas back in the day if you’re from an older generation, but for us, and what it seems like the whole audience (there was definitely a generation Y thing happening), we never got to experience it in it’s full glory.  Lido Cinemas’ history dates back over 100 years, to when it first opened in 1911, but it hasn’t been a cinema this whole time. Closing down in 1960 to became a dance school, and then a cabaret theatre, the cinema then became an unused building about a decade ago. Upon entering the building, you can still notice a lot of the old fixtures and setup, but it no longer is a dated cinema. Given a fresh new look with lots of bright green couches, lighting projections and an overall modern hipster feel.  …
