The Music Gym opens at Melbourne’s Galleria

Galleria is thrilled to announce an all new music hub in the heart of the CBD, The Music Gym officially launching on Make Music Day, 21 June. Make Music Day is a worldwide phenomenon observed by hundreds of millions of people in 800 cities across 120 countries. The day brings people of all styles, ages and skill levels together to make and enjoy music, with 2018 the first year Australia is participating. The Music Gym is the brainchild of Catherine Prifti, a music teacher of 21 years. Catherine has been immersed in the world of music for over two decades, working across Australia and Europe with her specialised skill set as a pianist, conductor and teacher. The concept for a music gym came about after Catherine noticed that while many adults have a strong interest in learning and performing music, expensive instruments and costly private lessons stopped many from realising their passion. Enter, The Music Gym: grown-ups only group classes with state-of-the-art instruments provided, at a convenient location where you can fit in a class …

The Melbourne Magic Festival

It should be no surprise that Melbourne has a festival entirely dedicated to magicians and the art of magic. After all, we already have festivals dedicated to salami, hijabs and daffodils, why not sleight of hand as well? In fact, the Melbourne Magic Festival has been amazing and amusing Melbourne audiences for over a decade. After ten years at Northcote Town Hall, the festival is moving to Collingwood in 2018, finding a new, larger home in The Melba Speigeltent for first two weeks in July. Each year, the festival hosts a range of free and ticketed events that see up and coming conjurers performing alongside the world’s greatest illusionists. The festival also includes regular favourites including the entire improvised ‘Magicspots’, two spectacular gala shows and the nightly mayhem of ‘The Best Of The Magic Fest.’ Budding magicians can take magic classes or compete against other pint-sized entertainers in the ‘Australian Junior Championships of Magic.’ Meanwhile, the international superstars like Woody Aragon, Mr Tango and Carisa Hendrix fill the 200 seat speigeltent with close up miracles …

MASTER DEN’S POPPU UPPU

Master Den, the keeper of secrets at Melbourne’s Japanese dining and drinking destinations, Izakaya Den and Hihou, can finally reveal the hot secret he has been keeping a tight lid on. Master Den’s Poppu Uppu will open for a limited time on Wednesday 20 June in the site formerly home to Kappo, offering a fun, new Japanese hot-pot experience to keep Melburnians warm through winter. The Poppu Uppu, a take on the Japanese translation for pop-up, is inspired by the special ‘nabemono’ dining experiences of Japan, where a pot is filled with broth and allowed to simmer, before vegetables and protein are gradually added to cook. There are dozens of varieties of hot pots, each with a distinguished flavour and style, and Master Den has created his own special versions of shabu shabu, a Hokkaido-style seafood nabe, and an elegant Japanese mushroom hot pot, that guests make themselves at the table guided by the friendly staff. The Shabu Shabu features a konbu flavoured broth, with a plate of wagyu rump, topside and sirloin 6+, with …
