Valentine’s Day in Melbourne

Suddenly, the post-Christmas bliss of January is over and we find ourselves well into February, and if you are a commercially influenced romantic at heart (like us)…. Valentine’s Day. The pressure mounts every year for some, the need to outdo the previous year, or perhaps impress a new love interest, coupled with the fear of failure and rejection. Coburg Drive In Food Truck Festival – Fifty Shades Darker The smell of the popcorn, the coziness of the car… the drive-in is a perfect date night, and at the Coburg Drive-In and Food Truck Festival you can also combine that with an insatiable lust for delicious food from all of your favorite Melbourne food trucks like Yo India, Real Burgers, Mamma Van, our pick – Mary Had a Little Lamb, to name a few. Summer Seafood Sensation

Originally a Queenslander, I have to say, I’m pretty into seafood, I could shell prawns before I knew my times tables, in my family… if you didn’t peel your own prawns, you didn’t get any, so you learned pretty quickly the art of the perfectly peeled prawn. So, with the herald of this ripper summer weather in Melbourne (warm sunny nights, daylight savings, two dinners…) its pretty exciting for us to see a fresh new offering in Shark Bay Summer Seafood Sensations, running at Southbank restaurant, Left Bank from 5 February until 22 March. Imagine sitting back, drinking a gorgeous, crisp glass of white, matched with fresh, Shark Bay prawns and blue swimmer crab sliders by the banks of the Yarra on a glorious Melbourne night… that’s what we did recently when invited to taste this special limited edition menu. Stand outs for us were without a doubt the fresh prawn cocktail, and marinated king prawns on bamboo skewers. The skewers came in four flavours, but the bourbon, chili honey was the real star of …

Good Morning Mofo – MICF Review

Good Morning  Mofo is filled with a cocktail of characters that you’d normally see and hear behind the scenes and on set of a breakfast show and Zoe McDonald plays them all. Upon entering The Bagging Room at the Malthouse Theatre, we were greeted with Jenny who as she explained “was the intern. She wasn’t getting paid for this but was very excited to be here.” This interaction with the audience we would soon realise was a large part of the whole show. The hour-long show moves through a series of characters for Women’s Week at Channel’s 8 Brunch show and Zoe Mcdonald transitions seamlessly between each. Taking apart the world of morning TV, characters including Chloe Davies the host with the perfect newsreader voice, Jessica Murphy the ‘bogan’ member of the audience, Rachelle the weather lady and also our favourite, Jenny the intern plus more – Each characterised by a different voice, rigid hand or flailing of the arm making them unique. The audience is never left questioning which currently character is on stage …
