Eat, What's On

Fine Food Australia 2018, taking hospitality industry to another level

Every September, Fine Food Australia celebrates the country’s incredibly diverse and dynamic foodservice industry, and this year the show returns on 10 – 13 September 2018 to our nation’s biggest foodie capital – Melbourne.

Fine Food Australia is the largest food trade show in the Southern Hemisphere – combining 1,000+ exhibitors with thousands more products. Every year the event draws on international and home-grown exhibitors, trends and innovations to be the one-stop destination to help you keep your finger on the industry’s pulse.

The event covers every facet of the industry, including the latest in food and specialty tastes, healthy living, bakery equipment and ingredients, packaging, catering and hospitality equipment, international food, drinks, fit-out and design, and retail technology. Regularly attracting an audience in excess of 24,000, the continued level of support of the event from the foodservice, hospitality and retail sectors nationally makes Fine Food Australia the annual go-to destination for any business operating in the food industry.

In 2018, the industry’s most important event brings a mix of old favorites and new attractions to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Organics, Natural and Free-From Zones
Catering to the growing and ongoing trend for healthy alternatives, the Organics Zone is back and larger than ever before! Focusing solely on organic products and sitting alongside the Natural and Free-From zone on the show floor, this caters for all dietary requirements in one stop!

The Lions’ Den
After an incredible response to the launch in Sydney last year, the Lions’ Den is launching in Melbourne and opening up the floor to aspiring businesses with winning ideas. Watch as start-ups get honest, real-world feedback from the panel of CEO industry experts who have the market understanding, strategic foresight and business savvy to know what works.

Women in Foodservice Charity Event
Launched in 2014, the Women in Foodservice Charity Event invites women in the food industry to come together, celebrate their knowledge and be inspired by key successful women within the industry while connecting and networking with peers. All profits from the event are donated to charity.

In 2018, the event will focus on a panel discussion covering all areas of the food industry. The panel will be facilitated by Australian journalist and food author, Dani Valent who will lead a discussion with renowned industry innovators including Sharlee Gibb, Shannon Martinez, Melissa Leong, Katy Barfield and Jo Barrett about their inspiring adventures in food.

All Things Bakery
Delivering new techniques, flavours, products, equipment and knowledge on an even larger scale than before, 2018 brings bakers from all over the country together to share ideas, inspire and try new products. Combine that with the Official Great Aussie Pie & Sausage Roll Competitions, Bake Skills and the Live Bakery by EOI showcasing the latest in baking live on the show floor – and all your bakery needs are covered!

Fitout and Design
New to Fine Food Australia, head here for all things design. Showcasing what’s hot – and what’s required – for a great venue fitout and design, the area will cover everything from tangibles such as furniture, carpet, tiles, and music systems to the brains behind the perfect fitout including builders, architects and operational specialists.

Pizza & Pastry Revolution
The 2018 Le 5 Stagioni Pizza Competition will return for another exciting year and will be heating things up on the show floor like only a hotly contested pizza competition can!  Watch the best pizza makers from around the country battle it out to be crowned the country’s best pizza maker by the man crowned the world’s best – Johnny Di Francesco of 400 Gradi.

Education across multiple sectors
Three stages of inspiration, education and workshops will run free sessions throughout the 4 days, catered to anyone working within the food industry. What is common to all stages and sessions are the practical take-aways and learnings. At the Innovations in Patisserie Stage presented by Callebaut, watch some of the country’s best pastry chefs as they demonstrate key techniques for working with chocolate and pastry, as well as showcasing new equipment technology and techniques. Visitors will be inspired by the likes of Kirsten Tibballs, the Zumbo team, Darren Purchese, Jitsk Heyninck and Jonny Pisanelli as they showcase the skills they’re known for, and the dessert trends that café and restaurant owners need to know about.

Staying on the sweet theme, International Belcolade Master Chocolatier Stephane Leroux will also be demonstrating at Fine Food Australia. Discover techniques from the countless World Champion who teaches all over the world, the essentials to pastry and chocolate, and see him in action as he creates masterpieces that are too good to eat – almost!

Across the show floor, the Talking Food stage presented by Silverchef is bursting with industry professionals ready to share their knowledge on everything from sustainability to international expansion, and addressing the more controversial aspects of running a business in the foodservice sector.

The Café Stage presented by Freedom Foods, will host interactive demonstrations which will inspire and provide actionable ideas that can be taken straight from stage to café.

Australian selections – The World Trophy of Pastry, Gelato And Chocolate
The World Trophy of Pastry, Gelato and Chocolate, organized by the International Federation of Pastry, Gelato, and Chocolate (FIPGC), is considered to be the most important event in the international pastry industry – and this year the selections to represent Australia at the biannual event in Milan will be held at Fine Food Australia.

Watch the nations’ best pastry chefs battle it out for one of the most prestigious titles in the industry – creating works of art from pastry, gelato and chocolate, and showing the skills needed to become a world class patissier and chocolatier. Judges include Adriano Zumbo, Luigi Stivaletta and Barbara Castiglione.
