Strap your skates on – Melbourne’s only outdoor ice rink is back for another year this winter. With a dramatic backdrop of the city and Yarra river, the River Rink will transform you into a fairyland of light and colour. For the young ones still learning to skate there’ll also assistants in the form of 70cm high penguins and seals which can be rented from the River Rink Box Office to help support them on the ice.
Walk amongst the dinosaurs at Melbourne Museum’s Jurassic World Exhibition. Visitors of all ages can now learn all about these incredible prehistoric creatures, so whether you’re a T-rex lover, or more of a Jurassic World geek, there’s something for everyone!
Watch the sky light up over the Docklands every Friday and night this winter. Arrive early or stay late to enjoy sparkling entertainment set to delight kids big and small, from live music to roving performers.
The largest of it’s kind in the southern hemisphere, the Melbourne Magic Festival returns to Melbourne for the winter school holidays. The program runs from June 27 to July 9 and will feature over 300 jaw-dropping performances at 55 different shows. The festival will include family shows, kids shows and there’s even shows for adults!

Their current show TWENTYSIXTEEN is a refreshing cocktail of new and old, innovation and tradition with turbo-charged acrobats bringing amazing new skills and wizardry to the flying trapeze, the Chinese pole and unicycle adagio.
Visit Southbank these Winter School Holidays to visit Melbourne’s first real Ice Slide. Take turns going down the four-metre high ice slide and when you’re done, grab a meal from The Food Truck Park next door.
