Imaginary Architecture Exhibition

Want to know what our future city will look like? Artist, Lara Tumak in collaboration with the children at ArtPlay worked together  using nothing but their bare hands, wondrous imaginations and recycled materials to create a mega-mini Melbourne city.

Explore the minds of our future town planners, master builders and architects extraordinaire  and see their worlds full of adventure, mayhem and a little bit of the mundane. You will also be able to make your own part of the city to be added to the exhibition!

Age: 5 to 12 years

Melbourne Zoo

Leapfrog at Melbourne Zoo

Leap into the new World of Frogs exhibit at Melbourne Zoo and learn all sorts of wacky and weird facts about the amphibian.

The exhibition will feature a variety of  endangered frogs including the tiny yellow and black Southern Corroboree Frog, the green Spotted Tree Frog and the Stuttering Frog – which sports some impressive striped legs! There’ll even be the opportunity to ake part in the Find the Corroboree Frog Hunt as well as a new giant frog sculpture within the Zoo grounds.

You’ll never look at those frogs the same way again.

Daily amphibian keeper talks will leave you feeling connected to these beautiful creatures and inspired to help save them from extinction. Be sure to also take part in the Find the Corroboree Frog Hunt and see if you can spot the new giant frog sculpture within the Zoo grounds.

Keeper Kids, the indoor play space, will also be celebrating all things amphibian with a frog-filled storytime and lots of games for hours of fun.

Remember, kids under 16 are free every weekend, Victorian Government school holidays and public holidays!

Kate Mulvany – ‘Masquerade’ Reading

‘In a wondrous world of riddles and hidden treasure, bumbling Jack Hare is on a race against time to deliver a message of love from the Moon to the Sun’

As part of the Melbourne Festival program, playwright and actress Kate Mulvany will do a live Saturday lunchtime reading of Kit Williams’s iconic 1979 picture book, Masquerade. Hear her read the magical story which sparked a real-life treasure hunt for a golden hare necklace buried in a secret location in Britain.
Following the reading, head on over to the Southbank Theatre, where Kate’s adaptation of the story will be performed live on stage for  a Melbourne Festival matinee.

Little Big Shots

ArtPlay and Little Big Shots present a selection of films for the little ones (taken from the International Film Festival for Kids in June 2015). Featuring the best in local and international children’s shorts and animations, the short films will inspire and get the kids giggling, thinking and cheering.
This one-day festival is about kids, suitable for kids aged 2 to 7 years and (sometimes) by kids

Escape Hunt Melbourne

Grab your friends and go on a unique adventure with the Escape Hunt experience. You will voyage back 100 years in time and play the part of a famous London detective, Shylock Barnes (or Charlotte Barnes), solving challenging mysteries set in old Siam. Find your way out of the locked room through solving clues and puzzles before your time is up!

There’s five different games rooms to choose from with three different adventures – abduction in the graveyard; secrets of the brewery; and the train bomb heist. Suitable for all ages, the experience is one of the most fun ways you can spend 90 minutes of your time with your friends or a partner.

Melbourne Festival

8th October – 25th October 2015

Celebrating 30 years of arts and culture, the Melbourne Festival returns to our city from 8-25 October. With a program filled with  dance, theatre, music, circus, visual arts, multimedia, outdoor and free events there is something for everyone.

Arguably one of Melbourne’s most unique and delicious food festivals, the Salami Festa returns to Melbourne this October for it’s fourth year. Celebrating the art and tradition of salami making, the best of the best Melbourne salami makers will be competing to have their prized homemade salami judged by leading salami aficionados and punters.

If you’re into gaming, fantasy, comics, anime, sci-fi  or just a straight movie buff, you’ll want to attend the Australian Movie and Comic Expo. Formerly known as Armageddon Oz, this fan event is run by the fans for the fans with special appearances from both local and international celebrities.

Australian Movie and Comic Expo

If you’re into gaming, fantasy, comics, anime, sci-fi  or just a straight movie buff, you’ll want to attend the Australian Movie and Comic Expo. Formerly known as Armageddon Oz, this fan event is run by the fans for the fans with special appearances from both local and international celebrities.

There’ll be costuming panels, prop making, laser skirmish, lego displays plus a special display of the Back to the Future’s own DeLorean car and the 1966 Batmobile. And for all the comic nerd there’ll be a huge comic book giveaway over the whole weekend, with more than 1000 comics up for grabs for those who arrive early!

So get your costumes out, and get ready to mix with the stars, including voice over celebrities  Hal Rayle and Maggie Roswell (The Simpsons) and Melbourne’s own Tristan Jones (current artist on Mad Max Fury Road), plus many more.

Wine and Cheese Fest

Sweet dreams are made of cheese!

Following the great success of the inaugural 2014 event, The Wine and Cheese Fest is returning to Seaworks on 25 October 2015. Indulge in cheese tasting and wine sipping with beautiful sea and city views!

This year, there’ll also be grape stomping, live entertainment, jazz bands and DJ’s.
