Barkly Barks dog festival returns for a fourth year to Brunswick’s Barkly Square from 10am until 3pm on Saturday 25 May 2019. Developed in response to Brunswick’s barking mad dog ownership, the beloved free festival is an annual celebration of canine companionship and the local community’s love for their four-legged friends.
This year, Barkly Barks will transform the Square’s laneway into a puppy paradise with the biggest program to date featuring pooch performances, paw-sonalised products, dingo discoveries and decadent doggy dishes.
The crowd-favourite Dog Parade will make a triumphant return with categories including Fastest Floof, Most Obedient, Best Costume, Best Owner Dog-elgänger and more. Registration for all events and activities can be made on the day; first in, first served.
Housing the best products available for your canine, the doggy mini market will see personalised pet accessories, hoodies and neckerchiefs by ID PET, as well as sleek and stylish seat covers from Sling Guard designed to keep your pooch comfy and car clean!
Making their festival debut, Dingo Whiskers (an offshoot of the Dingo Discovery Sanctuary and Research Centre) will educate locals about our country’s iconic native dogs by busting common misconceptions and raising awareness for the Sanctuary’s important conservation work. Visitors will also have the chance to meet real life dingoes Pumbah and Aussie – snapping a selfie for a $5 donation to the Australian Dingo Foundation.
Local dog trainer and behaviourist, Tim Watson from Good Dog Behaviour & Training will present tips and tricks for travelling with a furry friend, proper lead control, puppy socialising and decoding local laws.
Doggy food truck, Canine Wellness Kitchen will serve up canine-friendly snacks including puppy street food, bone broths and even dog-friendly beer. After your pooch has broken the seal, be sure to make a beeline for the custom created paw-toloos.
Humans can also fetch a feed with an abundance of scrumptious eateries throughout Barkly Square, get their face painted, and soak up the live music and entertainment throughout the day.
Don’t have a dog? Barkly Barks is the perfect place to meet a pet playmate, new or old. Everyone is welcome!
