Tesselaar Tulip Festival

Take a drive out to Silvan for a smell to remember! The 63rd Tesselaar Tulip Festival returns this year and visitors will be amazed by the beauty of  a million Tulips across 25 acres of farmland. Expanding their grounds this year, this year’s festival will have over 100 000 more Tulips than ever before, including over 150 varieties. Celebrating different cultures from around the world, each weekend will have different themes, ranging from Turkish through to Irish. Malaysia Street Festival

Taste authentic Malaysian food at the Malaysia Street Festival at the Queen Victoria Market this October. The day will filled with Malaysian culture and games with activities including a game of congkak, henna art, sarong tying, balloon making and cultural performances. Plus there’ll also be an ‘Amazing Race’ competition for the family to enjoy. Kylie has us Spinning Around

Step back in time at the Arts Centre latest exhibition, Kylie on Stage. Officially open as of today, the exhibition celebrates our princess of pop, Kylie Minogue with 800 costumes dating back to 1989, including those infamous gold hotpants from the Spinning Around video. Expect world class designers including Dolce & Gabbana, John Galliano, Julien Macdonald, Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as local designers such as Peter Morrissey and Mark Burnett. In addition to the hundreds of costumes, the exhibition will also feature stage props from her highly-successful concert tours plus a selection of designs, working drawings, photographs and footage that explore the creative process behind costumes and provide rare glimpses into the world backstage. Melbourne Festival is an innovative festival highlighting the rich culture of the arts that exist within the Melbourne lifestyle. Grand Pie-nal Day at The Queen Vic Markets

There’s nothing more Australian than a hot meat pie at the footy and with the AFL Grand Final just a few weeks away, there’s no better time to celebrate two great Australian traditions. On Friday 30 September  (aka Grand Final Eve), The Queen Victoria Market in partnership with Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses are inviting pie-lovers of all stripes to eat their heart out at Grand Pie-Nal Day. The day will be filled with events and pie competitions for the amateur, professionals and kids. The competition will be awarded to the first to eat 25 regular sized Ferguson Plarre lunch meat pies, or whoever eats the most pies in five minutes, whichever comes first. Kids will be served party pies, and will have a reduced two-minute quarter. Contestants in all divisions will be provided tomato sauce, water and a Grand Pie-Nal Day t-shirt.
