Review: Good Food Month

Just when you were ready to hibernate through Melbourne’s winter months, Good Food Month is here to pull us out of our winter induced slumbers and fill our bellies with food from some of Australia and the world’s best chefs. Under a wet and windy Melbourne winter night sky, Good Food Month was launched at the Palm Springs inspired, pop-up Melbourne Palms marque. The evening provided an opportunity to sample just some of the delights that this heavenly foodie program has waiting for attendees this month. The evening’s food was created by the fabulously talented Andrew McConnell (Cutler & Co, Cumulus Inc and Supernormal) and Alla Wolf-Tasker (Lake House) and sent attendees into a frenzy, trying to wrap their lips around the evening’s stunning canapés.  Stand outs on the specially curated menu included cured kangaroo on flaxseed crisps and brioche buns with winter mushrooms from Wolf-Tasker and La Luna Holy Goat cheese topped semolina crackers and to die for duck waffle with foie gras and quince from McConnell. Good Food Month 2018

Good Food Month presented by Citi returns to Melbourne in June with ten incredible featured events including an inspiring master-class, chef collaborations and flavour-packed parties. This year, the talent-filled, good-times-packed programme draws on the inspiration that fuels this great city, inviting food-lovers to re-imagine Melbourne’s buzzing dining scene over 30 delectable days. Venessa Cowell, Director of Food Events, Fairfax Media said: “Melbourne is an exciting and vibrant culinary mixing pot with an incredible diversity of revered chefs and restaurants that have earned their praise on the international food map. Moral Fairground returns to Melbourne’s Federation Square with its annual Fair@Square Festival on May 5, 2018. Celebrating all aspects of an ethical, sustainable and morally responsible lifestyle, this festival is shaping up to be the biggest, busiest and best to date. Fashion Conscious fashionistas will enjoy Fair Fashion of the Future, an exhibition highlighting issues arising from the different stages of textile and fashion-supply chains and showcasing design-led solutions from local designers and academics. Ice Skating at Fed Square

Get your skates on – Melbourne’s only outdoor ice rink is back for another year this June. Whether you’re young or young at heart the rink is the perfect place to take in the views while skating the ice. With a dramatic backdrop of the city and Yarra river, the River Rink will transform you into a fairyland of light and colour. This year there will also be different themes on select evenings plus live music, as well as food and drinks to give you the energy to whiz around the rink a few extra times. Markit returns to Federation Square on Sunday 29 November  for it’s sixth year. There’ll be  over 100 Australian independent designers selling limited-edition jewellery, ceramics, fashion, art prints, homewares and more. For those who are looking for early Christmas presents, Markit is the perfect place to buy those Australian-made products with an original edge.
