Dressmaker Costume Exhibition

Costumes from the box office hit film, The Dressmaker, will be on display in an exclusive exhibition held at National Trust’s Rippon Lea House and Gardens from April 22, 2016. Take a rare glimpse into how whimsy, glamour and humour are used in the creation of these stunning costumes. Developed by The National Trust Victoria, in in partnership with Marion Boyce and Film Art Media, the exhibition will take you behind the scenes of  the film into the inner world of the costume department with footage of the costumes being created and stories behind the corsetry and art finishing. 200 Years of Australian Fashion at NGV

Walk through the history of Australian Fashion at the NGV’s latest exhibition: 200 Years of Australian Fashion. Featuring over 120 works from more than ninety designers, this is the first major survey of Australian fashion to be undertaken in this country. From the early dressmaking establishments of Brisbane to the mid-century salons of Collins Street, to the contemporary studios by Bondi’s beaches, 200 Years of Australian Fashion traverses over two centuries of fashion design in Australia. Take a walk through four galleries featuring the best of the best Australian fashion design including Dion Lee, Ellery, Romance Was Born and Toni Maticevski alongside key designs from the past 200 years, including exquisite examples of historic design. The Dress Collective Runway

On February 13, 2016, The Dress Collective will merge the digital world with the tangible, presenting an interactive runway to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute, a not-for-profit organisation and world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.  Featuring 100% Australian made and independent fashion, The Dress Collective Runway will present our exclusive range of emerging and established designers including: Sophia Martin, Chip The Teacup, Kabel Apparel, Vincent Li, Cameron and James, Harlow, That Dapper Chap, Orocéo Castro, AlcieMay Designs + more! If Melbourne is known for its laneways, hidden cafes and secret shopping, then Captains of Industryis the epitome of this. Walk down a cobbled lane-way off Little Bourke St, climb up a rickety wooden staircase, enter a large, sunny warehouse and there you are – yet another cool café to chill out in, and if in the mood, do a little shopping. But this is no ordinary café; you can get your hair-cut, have leather shoes custom made or a vintage suit tailored to your exact measurements. Sadly for the ladies, the ‘captains’ only cater for the gentlemen, but thankfully the café welcomes all. The café is a simple affair, with 1930s style décor. If you were to have a cup of tea and a biscuit with your grandpa, then this would be the place. They even serve their water in those metal camping cups – it makes you want to tell a story.
