Johnston St Latin American Festival

Melbourne’s favourite outdoor festival, the Hispanic Fiesta returns to Johnston St this November.  The festival will tranform Johnston St into a Latin American carnival with delicious Latino food stalls, free dance classes, DJ’s and live entertainment all weekend as well as dance showcases by local dance schools and community groups. Inspired by the commemoration of One Thousand years of the Spanish Language, the annual Hispanic Festival is now in it’s 37th year and is guaranteed to be one colourful party. Carlton Italian Festa

Celebrating Italian culture, art, food and heritage, the Carlton Italian Festa will take over Piazza Italia on October 25. Expect live Italian cooking classes, live music and plenty of Italian culinary delights to try. Kate Mulvany – ‘Masquerade’ Reading

‘In a wondrous world of riddles and hidden treasure, bumbling Jack Hare is on a race against time to deliver a message of love from the Moon to the Sun’ As part of the Melbourne Festival program, playwright and actress Kate Mulvany will do a live Saturday lunchtime reading of Kit Williams’s iconic 1979 picture book, Masquerade. Hear her read the magical story which sparked a real-life treasure hunt for a golden hare necklace buried in a secret location in Britain. Following the reading, head on over to the Southbank Theatre, where Kate’s adaptation of the story will be performed live on stage for  a Melbourne Festival matinee. Little Big Shots

ArtPlay and Little Big Shots present a selection of films for the little ones (taken from the International Film Festival for Kids in June 2015). Featuring the best in local and international children’s shorts and animations, the short films will inspire and get the kids giggling, thinking and cheering. Melbourne Festival 8th October – 25th October 2015 Celebrating 30 years of arts and culture, the Melbourne Festival returns to our city from 8-25 October. With a program filled with  dance, theatre, music, circus, visual arts, multimedia, outdoor and free events there is something for everyone. Australian Movie and Comic Expo

If you’re into gaming, fantasy, comics, anime, sci-fi  or just a straight movie buff, you’ll want to attend the Australian Movie and Comic Expo. Formerly known as Armageddon Oz, this fan event is run by the fans for the fans with special appearances from both local and international celebrities. There’ll be costuming panels, prop making, laser skirmish, lego displays plus a special display of the Back to the Future’s own DeLorean car and the 1966 Batmobile. And for all the comic nerd there’ll be a huge comic book giveaway over the whole weekend, with more than 1000 comics up for grabs for those who arrive early! So get your costumes out, and get ready to mix with the stars, including voice over celebrities  Hal Rayle and Maggie Roswell (The Simpsons) and Melbourne’s own Tristan Jones (current artist on Mad Max Fury Road), plus many more. Sweet dreams are made of cheese! Following the great success of the inaugural 2014 event, The Wine and Cheese Fest is returning to Seaworks on 25 October 2015. Indulge in cheese tasting and wine sipping with beautiful sea and city views! This year, there’ll also be grape stomping, live entertainment, jazz bands and DJ’s. Meyers Place Latin Fiesta

This October, Meyers Place will be transformed into a Latin American street party. The all-ages festival will be filled with the party vibes, showcasing Latin American’s finest food, wine and culture from Meyers Place venues San Telmo, Lily Blacks, Mr Big Stuff, Loop and Loop Roof. And if that’s not enough to get the party started,  there’ll also be live music from Latin American bands  (curated by Mick Williams, PBS Latin connection segment presenter), Carpoeira, and dance lessons of salsa, merengue and samba. Salami Festa: Celebrate your love of the cured meat

Salami like your Nonna makes it! Arguably one of Melbourne’s most unique and delicious food festivals, the Salami Festa returns to Melbourne this October for it’s fourth year. Celebrating the art and tradition of salami making, the best of the best Melbourne salami makers will be competing to have their prized homemade salami judged by leading salami aficionados and punters. With the heat on for salami makers (last year a non-Italian took out the grand prize), we expect the standards this year to be notched up to the next level.  Festa patron Guy Grossi, will be leading the judging panel along with chefs Dom Marzano, Rosa Mitchell (Rosa’s Kitchen), Massimo Scalas (Salumi Australia) Pina Busa (Home Make It) and special guest nonna Rocchina Catoggio. This Festa isn’t just for the Salami makers, but also for lovers of the delicious cured meat. AFL Grand Final Hawthorn vs West Coast

Footy fans looking for something to do leading up to Saturday’s Hawthorn-West Coast Grand Final have a host of choices. Here’s a  quick look at what’s on offer, starting Wednesday afternoon. Foxtel Footy Festival The Foxtel Footy Festival, located in Yarra Park outside Gate 3 at the MCG, celebrates everything Melbourne has to offer including food, music, movies and of course football. The festival starts at 4pm Wednesday, September 30 and runs through to Grand Final Day, Saturday October 3. Toyota AFL Live Site The centrepiece of the Foxtel Footy Festival is the Live Site, featuring a number of activities, live broadcasts, player appearances and activities for kids. The Grand Final will be shown live on big screens throughout the Live Site on Saturday.
